Dear Mrs Menon
UNPLEASANT INCIDENTS HAPPENING IN THE LIBRARY
My friends and I have been going to the school library to do some self-study. However, we are unhappy about a few incidents which took place recently. I am writing to inform you of the incidents and I hope you will take actions to ensure that the library is a conducive environment for self-study.
There was this group of students who were rude to the librarian. They shouted at the library when she asked them to keep quiet. One of the boys scolded the librarian in Mandarin. The librarian was angry and threatened to report him to the Discipline Master. The rest of the boys became abusive and challenged the librarian to report them all. Personally, I think the boys should be punished for their rowdy and rude behaviour.
Some students actually break the rules. They managed to sneak food in. They even spilled drinks onto the table. There were ants as it was sweet drink. The table became sticky and it was impossible to study there. I hope you will ensure that pupils observe cleanliness rules in the library. Food and drinks should not be allow in the library as it will dirty the library.
There was this boy who wore his PE attire into his library. He was soaked in perspiratio. This is unhealthy for him as he may catch a cold. This is unpleasant for the other users in the libary as there may be an odour. Pupils should not be allowed to enter the library in PE attire. They should changed into uniform before entering the library.
There was a group of students playing games on the computers for a very long time. This causes inconvenience to the other students who need to use the computer for their work. I think the librarian should stop the students from playing computer games. The computers in the library should only be used for doing projects.
I hope you will take some actions to stop all this incidents.
Yours sincerely,
ZiHui

International Friendship Day
1)What are the relationships that are important to you within the school context?
-The environment as it is important to keep our school clean.
2)What do you know about the history of your school or CCA?
-It was started in the 1994. The 5 core values of the are Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dedication to nation and Excellence (PRIDE). The demolition of the CBSS old school building began in December 2001 and the 1st Student Councillors' Investiture Ceremony was held in 2002.
3)Share a story about your school/CCA. It can be funny ones, successful ones and difficult ones.
-It was our SFY competition day. All the dancers were told to report to school at 6am and there was no school for the dancers on that day. The sky was still dark when I reached the school. The dancers go the AVA room to to prepare themselves. By the time all of us had tied our hair and makeup, it was already 10am. We board the bus and went to the place to compete. It was nervous but i overcome my fear soon after my friends encouraged me. All of us felt very relaxed after dancing. Soon, we went back to our school to remove all the makeup and clean up the room. Though we finished everything at about 11, we can only go home at 1.45
4)Have the story u heard from yr classmate change the way u feel/views of the sch?
-Yes, they told me that the school is not as good as the other schools, however, i think that the group works can help us to make more friends

Sport Fiesta
The Sports Fiesta was held at the Serangoon Stadium just like last year. We had to go to the stadium ourselves again. When we reached there, all the students were asked to gather at the field to take attendance. We also kept our valuables in a plastic bag so that we would not lose anything when running. Later after we sang the National Anthem, we were told to go to our houses. I was from Terrus.
We cheered for the competitors who were competing on behalf of the houses. After a few hours, some of the people went to sit with their friends at different houses. I also helped my house by participating in one of the game. After the game, I went to sit with my friends. We were chatting and ate cup noodles. After eating, we put all the rubbish aside. Later, some student leaders told us to throw away the rubbish into the black plastic bag. After that, the teachers gave out prizes to the competitors who had won for the match.
Later, it was time to announced which house won the first. Pyros was first, Hydros was next, Aeros, Voltus and Terrus was last. Though my house had got the 5th place, the competitors had work hard to win the match. After that, we collected our valuables before being dismissed.

Cross Country
This year’s Cross Country is also very different from last year. Last year, we had our Cross Country at the Nanyang Poly while this year, we had it at the Macritchie Reservoir. All the students and staff from Chong Boon Sec Sch were to report at Macritchie Reservoir for the Cross Country.
After the form teachers from each class had taken our attendance, Mr Tan gave us a briefing on what would happen next. Secondary 2 students went to Lim Bo Seng's tomb and Miss Sasi explained to us about Lim Bo Seng's contributions to Singapore when he was alive as this chapter will be taught in history after our June Holidays.By the time Ms Sasi had finished explaining about Lim Bo Seng's contributions, it was time for the Lower Sec Girls to run. While we were running, we saw some monkeys. Lower sec girls started to walk after running some distance. I was feeling tired too, so I walked. After the race had ended, my friends and I went to buy drinks for ourselves. The prize presentation was next. Some of our classmates won the prize. It was a fun but tiring day for us.

P.E.E.L
Lemons are sour but juicy. However, they are good for health despite its sourness. Lemon has a rough yellow skin and its flesh is light yellow in colour. Lemons can also be used for cooking and non-cooking uses. Lemon are used to make lemon-flavored drinks and candies. Lastly, lemons are good for us and we should eat fruits frequently.

Summary for all entries
From all the entries, I have learnt about the behaviour, reproduction of the Tasmanian devils and the reason why they became endangered. Before I do my research, I did not know much thing about the Tasmanian Devils. However, after doing my research, I realised that Tasmanian devils are also important.
I had learnt that the devils had a good sense of smell and their vision is the strongest in black and white. The devil produce a strong odour when agitated. The long whiskers on its face help the devil to locate prey. The Tasmanian Devils are now endangered due to the devil facial tumour disease which killed many devils within so many years. The Devil Facial Tumour Disease form large lumps on the devils' head and around the mouth and make it difficult for them to eat. Soon, the devils starves to death, therefore they separate the sick animals and healthy devils to prevent the wild population die out.
I feel that scientists should try to work harder to find out how to cure them and everyone should play a part to stop all the endangered animals from being extinct. People can help by try to reduce the amount greehouses gases, because too much greenhouse gases can lead to global warming.
Due to global warming, animals such as polar bears are now emdangered. That is because global warming causes the temperature to increase and thus sea ice melt. Sometimes the polar bears drown as reduction in sea-ice cover also forces bears to swim longer distances.

Reflection 3. Tasmanian Devils
This is about what causes the Tasmanian Devils' population to become endangered.
Efforts in the late 1800s to eradicate Tasmanian devils, which farmers erroneously believed were killing livestock (although they were known to take poultry), were nearly successful. In 1941, the government made devils a protected species, and their numbers have grown steadily since. A transmissible cancer, devil facial tumour disease, also known as DFTD, was seen in 1996. This rapidly spreading condition killed tens of thousands of Tasmanian Devils. It causes large lumps to form around the animals’ mouth and head, making it difficult for them to eat, thus they starves to death. Animal health experts are sequestering populations where the disease has not yet appeared and are focusing on captive breeding programs to save the species from extinction. Because of the outbreak, the Australian government has classified the Tasmanian devil as least concern in 1996, but in 2009, they were reclassified as endangered. The population of the Tasmanian devil are monitored to track the spread of the disease and to identify changes in disease prevalence. Field monitoring involves trapping devils within a defined area to check for the presence of the disease and determine the number of affected animals. The same area is visited repeatedly to characterise the spread of the disease over time. Field workers are also testing the effectiveness of disease suppression by trapping and removing diseased devils. They hoped that the removal of diseased devils can prevent the wild population dies out and allow more devils to survive. As Tasmanian devils have low levels of genetic diversity and a chromosomal mutation unique among carnivorous mammals, they are more likely to get the disease.

Reflection 2. Tasmanian Devils
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmanian_Devil
About their reproduction:
Males fight over females in the breeding season, and female devils will mate with the dominant male. Females can mate with several males if not guarded after mating. Gestation lasts 21 days, and devils give birth to 20-30 young. When the young are born, they move from the vagina to the pouch. They will remain attached to a nipple for the next 100 days when they are inside the pouch. It is physically difficult for the female to interact with young inside the pouch. The female has only four nipples, so there are never more than four babies nursing in the pouch
As the female devil gets older, the smaller her litters will become. On average, more females survive than males. The nourished young develop quickly in the pouch. After 15 days, the external parts of the ear are visible. Eyelids are apparent at 16 days, whiskers at 17 days, and the lips at 20 days. The young will only start to grow fur at 49 days and have a full coat by 90 days.
After their fur coat develops, the can open their eyes and soon, their mouths can relax their hold of the nipple. They are able to leave the pouch 105 days after birth, and they will weigh about 500 grams. After the devils leave the pouch, they will not return, instead, they will stay in the den for 3 months before becoming independent. Female devils are occupied with raising their young for all but approximately six weeks of the year.
Reflection:

Reflection No. 1 Tasmanian Devil
This is about description and the behaviour of the Tasmanian Devil.
The Tasmanian devil is found in the wild at the Australian island state of Tasmania. Since the late 1990s, a catagious disease, the devil facial tumour disease has reduced the devil population. Short of a cure, scientists are removing the sick animals and quarantining healthy devils in case the wild population dies out. It has a squat and thick build, with a large head and a tail that is about half its body length. Its forelegs are slightly longer than its hind legs. The males are usually larger than females as they have an average head and body length of 652 mm, with a 258 mm tail, and an average weight of 8 kg, while females have an average head and body length of 570 mm, with a 244 mm tail, and an average weight of 6 kg. The average life expectancy of a Tasmanian Devil in the wild is estimated at six years, although they may live longer in captivity. As devil stores their body fats in their tails, unhealthy devils often have thin tails. The devil will produce a strong odour when they are agitated. Long whiskers on the face of the Devil can help to locate the prey when they are foraging in the dark and detect whether other devils are close during feeding. Hearing is its most important sense, but it also has an excellent sense of smell. The devils’ vision are the strongest in black and white, however, they have difficulty seeing stationary objects. Each Tasmanian Devil only has a set of teeth that grows slowly throughout its life.
The Tasmanian Devils spend their days in dense bush or in a hole. Young devils can climb the trees, but as they grow larger, it will become more difficult. They can swim and do not form packs. They occupy territories of 8–20 km², which can overlap considerably amongst different animals. It can take prey up to the size of a small kangaroo but they eat dead animal flesh more often than they hunt live prey. Even though they prefers wombats, it will eat other mammals such as birds or fish and reptiles. They can help the Tasmanian famers to prevent the spread of insects that might otherwise harm livestock as they can devour the bones, fur, meat and internal organs of the carcass.

Total Defence Day
In order to celebrate Total Defence Day, our form teachers were busy for other things, therefore a relief teacher told us what had happened during the War. The relief teacher told us how people survive during that time. She also told us that people were punished and killed when they did not obey the instructions. After that, we wrote some of our reflections and pasted some papers on different stations. However, I only went to the first station as we need to go to the canteen for our recess. We were only given a bun and a bottle of water. After eating, i go to the AVA room to prepare for the performance.

We were only given a bun and a bottle of water. As I am a dancer, I had to perform for the Chinese New Year Celebration. While everyone was having their break at the canteen, my friends and I went to the AVA room to prepare for our performance. All of us were nervous but we tried to encouraged each other. When there is still some time, we tried to practise on our own.
All of the dancers had put in a lot of effort, therefore i think we had already did very well. Besides that, our class got a second for the class decoration competition.

Growth Day @ Sentosa Beach
This year's Growth Day is very different from last year. The whole school went to sentosa to play games that were managed by the ITE students. All of us were very excited. When we reached the Sentosa, we took a long walk to our destination, the Siloso Beach.
As we were walking there, we saw the outside of the Universal Studio and rollercoaster. It was really an amazing and a beautiful sight. However, as I felt that the games were too childish, I did not play any games. I only went to the sea shore and chat with my friends. We appreciated the beautiful scene too.
At around 11.15am, we had our lunch. There were chicken wings and vegetable. It was quite tasty. On the way back, some of us feel asleep as we were too tired.

Personal Recount
My happiness started to seep away when I received my test paper.
I did not revise my homework last night therefore beads of sweat rolled down my forehead
and suddenly, I thought of an idea. I decided to cheat in my exams.
I would turn around and look at my friend’s answers whenever my teacher, Ms Lim is not looking at my direction.
Suddenly, an eerie silence permeated the house.
“What are you doing?” Ms Lim yelled at the top of her voice.
I stood in front of the class with my head hanging and my eyes fixed on Ms Lim’s shoes.
“I’m sorry.” I finally blurted out with tears strangling my voice. Within seconds, tears streaked down my cheeks. My nose and eyes were drenched and I wipe them with the black of my sleeve.
Ms Lim asked me go to the office with her after the school ended.
When I reached the office, I told Ms Lim the pathetic truth about why I did I copy answers from my friend. I told Ms Lim that I would not do it again and Ms Lim gave me zero.
